When halfway across, he met Colonel Doniphan with his small regiment on their way to the City of Chihuahua in Mexico. The Colonel halted the caravan, spoke to Mr. Spiegelberg, found him a very nice young man and invited him to join his regiment. He gave him a horse, which naturally greatly pleased the young man. He accompanied Colonel Doniphan first to Santa Fe, where they rested, then to Chihuahua.
